Frequently asked questions

How does the Blast Mk II HEPA clean the air?

It draws room air through a washable pre-filter and then an H13 HEPA filter. The pre-filter catches larger debris first, which protects the HEPA filter and helps it last longer. The HEPA stage then traps fine particles in its dense fibre mesh, and clean air is returned to the room through the redesigned outlet. The cleaning is entirely mechanical, with no ionisers, UV or chemical treatment, so it produces no ozone.

What does "H13" and "99.97% at 0.3 microns" actually mean?

H13 is the rating under the EN 1822 European standard for HEPA filters, and it's often called medical-grade. 0.3 microns (PM0.3) is the test size because particles of roughly that size are the hardest for a filter to catch. So 99.97% at 0.3 microns means the filter captures 99.97% of particles at that size, and larger and smaller particles are generally caught even more effectively. Particles are measured by size in this way: PM2.5 refers to particles 2.5 microns or smaller, which covers fine dust and smoke particles that can reach deep into the lungs.

What does the HEPA-only version filter, and what does it not remove?

The H13 filter captures PM2.5, pollen, dust mites, mould spores, bacteria and airborne viruses. It does not remove gases, VOCs or odours, because those molecules are too small for a HEPA filter to catch. If you need smoke, renovation fumes, formaldehyde or everyday odours dealt with, you can add the optional activated carbon filter, or look at the HEPA & Carbon version of this model. Fitting the carbon filter lowers the high-speed CADR from 950 to about 846 m³/h.

How quickly does it clean a room, and how often does the HEPA filter need replacing?


Clean air delivery is 450 m³/h on low, 680 m³/h on mid and 950 m³/h on high, which is enough for multiple full air changes per hour in rooms up to 130 m². The speed changes how fast the air is cleaned, not how finely it's filtered. Noise runs from 29 dB(A) on low to 43 dB(A) on high, and power draw from 48 W to 118 W. The HEPA filter lasts around 8,100 hours (about 33 months at 8 hours a day), and the pre-filter is washable. The unit costs £1,080.00 and has a 2-year warranty.
